    Description
    Very tall tapering shaft surmounted by small square cross. Set into the front is stylised figure of Christ holding a gashed palm outwards and a sword, point downwards. To the rear is inset a small shrine with seated Virgin and child. On square plinth and four stepped base.

    Around the plinth: IT IS SOOTH THAT SIN IS CAUSE OF ALL THIS PAIN/ BUT ALL SHALL BE WELL AND ALL SHALL BE WELL/ AND ALL MANNER OF THINGS SHALL BE WELL Eastern face: TO THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1919/ (Names) Northern face: R.I.P./ (Names) Western face: (Names) Southern faces: 1939 - 1945/ (Names)

    The memorial was a gift to the village by Sir Ernest Debenham- who had built the village between 1919 and 1932 in an attempt to prove that country living could be self-sufficient and thus turn the tide away from the cities. After his death and that of two of the three other trustees, the Parish Council undertook the Trusteeship of the memorial in 1954.
