Description: Devonshire grey granite cross on pedestal which stands on three steps. At the cap of the pedestal rests a carved and moulded bronze wreath. There are bronze panels on the front and back of the pedestal, with the dedications and list of names. Lettering in bold relief. Added plaque relating to wars subsequent to Second World War.
Inscription: Cross: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN HONOURED MEMORY OF/ THE MEN FROM BARNSTAPLE WHO FELL/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918/ (Names)/ Plaque: ALSO/ IN REMEMBRANCE/ OF THOSE MEN/ OF THE BOROUGH/ WHO GAVE THEIR/ LIVES 1939-1945./ WHOSE NAMES ARE/ RECORDED IN THE/ GUILDHALL Plaque:(added in 2002) IN MEMORY OF THOSE/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE CONFLICTS/SINCE / WORLD WAR II./ ADEN, BORNEO, BOSNIA,/ CYPRUS, DHOFAR, FALKLANDS,/ GULF, KENYA, KOREA,/ MALAYA, NORTHERN IRELAND,/ OMAN, HADFAN, SUEZ.
