- Malayan silver alms dish.
- Inscription
- THIS ALMS DISH WAS IN THE ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL, SINGAPORE, WHICH WAS DESPOILED BY THE JAPANESE ON 14 FEBRUARY 1942 WHEN THEY MASSACRED ABOUT 300 OF THE STAFF AND PATIENTS. THE DISH IS OF MALAYAN SILVER AND WAS KINDLY PRESENTED ON 17 MAY 1957 TO THE HOSPITAL CHAPEL BY THE REV. E.C.WEARNE, INDUSTRIAL CHAPLAIN FOR CROYDON. MR WEARNE RECOVERED THE ALMS DISH WITH OTHER VESSELS, SUBSEQUENTLY LOST TRAC E OF IT AND THEN DISCOVERED OIT LATER IN A PRISON CAMP AFTER WHICH HE CARRIED IT ABOUT HIM FOR MANY HUNDREDS OF MILES UNTIL THE END OF THE WAR.
