    • Morpeth Herald - Friday 05 December 1919 (page 5) reported: 'COUNTY POLICE MEMORIAL TABLET. The Northumberland Standing Joint Committee, at a meeting in Newcastle, on Monday, decided to erect a mural tablet in the Headquarters of the County Police at Morpeth, in memory of the members of the Force who were killed or died from wounds received in the war'. https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000344/19191205/105/0005
    • Newcastle Journal - Tuesday 14 September 1920 (page 6) printed a lengthy report of the unveiling of the memorial, prefaced with the comment: 'A LESSON TO NEWCASTLE. Worthy of note is the ceremony which took place at Morpeth yesterday, when a tablet was unveiled by the Duke of Northumberland to the memory of members of the County Constabulary who fell in the war. Too little has been made of the work of the police officers of the kingdom during the dark days when men trained to discipline were badly needed. Over 50,000 constables joined the Colours and took their chance with the rest of soldiers in the great struggle for freedom, and there can be no doubt that their training was a valuable asset to the fighting forces'. [The main section of the report began: 'COUNTY POLICE AND WAR SERVICE. MEMORIAL AT MORPETH. DUKE AND LESSONS OF THE GREAT CONFLICT. The unveiling of the tablet placed on the right-hand side of the entrance to the headquarters of the Northumberland Constabulary at Morpeth, yesterday, is a reminder of the splendid services rendered by "men in blue" to King and country during the great war. The names inscribed are as follow: Killed in action: Maclennan, David B., L.Cpl, Scots Guards; Shotton, John, Tpr., Life Guards; Strother, John, Sgt. N.F.; Taylor, John, Cpl. Coldstream Guards; Wooley, Robert, Pte., Gordon Highlanders; Yorke, Edward B. R. Pte., S. Lancs. Died of wounds; McDougall, Robert, Gnr., R.F.A. Died on Service: Cowe, Henry, Pte. R.A.S.C.; Law, William, Pte., Gordon Highlanders. Killed in air raid: Telford, Robert. P.C. The ceremony was performed by the Lord-Lieutenant of the County, the Duke of Northumberland, in the presence of numerous representatives of the ancient borough, the Standing Joint Committee of Northumberland, county magistrates, relatives of the fallen, the County Constabulary, and many others...']. https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000569/19200914/166/0006

    • Newcastle Evening Chronicle - Monday 23 September 1974 (page 13) reported: 'Police HQ moves. Northumbria Police administrative headquarters moves home tomorrow. • On 18/8/2019 the Ross-shire Journal reported that Avoch native David Bain MacLeman had been added to the Scottish National War Memorial, having previously been overlooked. The report mentioned that his surname had been listed as "MacLennan" in Army records and on the First World War memorial of Northumberland Constabulary, (for which he had worked from March to August 1914). N.B. Whilst his birth cert listed his surname as "McLeman", his mother's maiden name was McLennan; his marriage to Elizabeth Sim Millar in 1914 was registered as MacLennan; he served in the Constabulary as MacLennan, as which he was commemorated on both this plaque and on the constabulary's Roll of Honour.
