    Description
    Brass Plaque on a wooden backboard. There is a single line border. Lettering is sunk in casting and enamelled black, using plain capitals throughout. Notes- 1. This is one of three identical plaques placed in all three churches in Otterburn (See also 34107 and 34108) 2. G.S. Waddell was the only Otterburn person killed in the Second World war. 3. He was a pilot in the RAF, serving with 40 Squadron, which was based at Foggia, Italy, between December 1943 and October 1945, operating Wellington Mark 10 bombers. He was shot down over Budapest on a mission to lay mines in the River Danube on July 1st 1944. He is buried in Yugoslavia. 4. There is a headstone for him in the churchyard, which gives his rank as “Flight Lieutenant”; CWGC gives his rank as “Pilot Officer”.
