Description: Brass Plaque. There is a wide border of chevrons. The main panel has a small Maltese Cross in each corner. At the top is the regimental badge of the Royal Artillery, with the motto "Ubique Fata et Gloria Ducunt" ("Wherever the fates and glory lead"). Lettering is in raised elaborate capitals except for the quotation which is in Old English.
Inscription: IN MEMORY OF/ COLONEL GEORGE ELLIOTT BENSON,/ ROYAL ARTILLERY,/ YOUNGEST SON OF/ WILLIAM AND JANE BENSON,/ OF ALLERWASH,/ WHO DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED/ IN ACTION WHILE COMMANDING/ HIS COLUMN AT BRAKENLAAGTE,/ TRANSVAAL, OCT. 31ST 1901, AGED 40./ HE SERVED WITH DISTINCTION IN/ THE SOUDAN CAMPAIGNS OF/ 1885, 1896, 1898/ IN THE ASHNATI EXPEDITION 1895/ IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN WAR/ 1899 - 1901/ "PRO PATRIA MORI"
