    Wall-mounted white marble tablet surmounted by a relief trophy of arms including a shako and Colours of the 97th Regiment of Foot.

    TO THE MEMORY OF/ REGINALD CYRIL GOODENOUGH/ AGED 18/ LIEUTENANT OF THE 97TH REGIMENT OF FOOT/ FIRST BORN SON OF/ THE REV. ROBERT GOODENOUGH, M.A./ VICAR OF WHITTINGHAM./ HE FELL MORTALLY WOUNDED WITHIN THE GREAT REDAN BATTERY/ SEBASTOPOL/ ON THE 8TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER 1855/ HAVING LED ON HIS SOLDIERS TO THE ASSAULT/ IN THE FIRST STORMING PARTY./ THIS MONUMENT/ IS ERECTED BY HIS SORROWING FRIENDS,/ INHABITANTS OF THIS/ HIS NATIVE PARISH AND THE IMMEDIATE NEIGHBOURHOOD/ WHO WITNESSED HIS EARLY PROMISE/ AND MOURN HIS UNTIMELY DEATH/ I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVETH.
