    Description
    Memorial chapel converted from a disused farmstead by John Bunting. Two angels carrying scrolls mounted on projections flanking the entrance. Central sculpture inside the chapel depicts a recumbant paratrooper in jump boots and helmet. Three stained glass window, all designed by the artist.

    OUTSIDE ON ANGELS' SCROLLS: GLORY TO GOD ON HIGH/ PEACE ON EARTH TO THOSE WHO SEEK IT INSIDE, THE EXACT INSCRIPTIONS NOT KNOWN BUT THE MEMORIAL COMMEMORATES THREE FORMER SCHOOLBOYS OF AMPLEFORTH COLLEGE: HUGH DORMER, IRISH GUARDS AND SAS, KILLED IN ACTION IN NORMANDY, 1944, WITH THE GUARDS ARMOURED BRIGADE AGED 27. MICHAEL FENWICK, POET, KILLED IN ACTION KOWLOON, 1941, AGED 21. MICHAEL ALLMAND VC, FOUNDER OF THE LITERARY REVIEW THE WIND AND THE RAIN, KILLED IN ACTION IN EUROPE, 1944.

    The buildings close to the memorial were damaged by fire in an arson attack in June 2021 - the memorial itself was undamaged. Funded via crowd-funding, these buildings are being restored.
