    AUTUMN 1899: MEMORIAL ORIGINALLY HAD A SCROLL BENEATH IT WITH THE NAMES OF THE NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND MEN ON IT. WHEN IT WAS MOVED FROM ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SCROLL WOULD NOT FIT SO THE NAMES WERE CUT ONTO NEW MARBLE SLABS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE MEMORIAL.
