    Description
    Boer War soldier standing to attention with rifle and bush hat, surmounting tall Ionic capped column mounted on square moulded pedestal with pediment. North facing pediment has arms of Borough of Crewe with motto 'Never Behind', below the dates 1899 1902. Name plaques on all four faces. Two stone lions at base. Originally there was a bronze model of a railway locomotive and tender, named King Edward VII, at the base. Resting on rails supported by 19 sleepers and weighed over 2 cwt.

    Maintenance History
    Grade II listed. The model of a locomotive designed by FW Webb, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London & North Western Railway, and made by PH Lightfoot, was removed and is now used for special displays in Crewe and Nantwich.
