Description
Standard GRU/IWGC wooden battlefield cross with a GRU tag at the top of the upright , a white metal strip at the crossing point and just below the crossing point on the upright a rectangular metal plate .
Inscription
GRU/ UNKNOWN BRITISH SOLDIER/ THE CROSS/ TEMPORARILY/ MARKED THE GRAVE / OF AN UNKNOWN/ BRITISH SOLDIER/ ON THE/ WESTERN FRONT/ AND IS ENTRUSTED/ TO OUR CARE/ BY THE/IMPERIAL/ WAR GRAVES/ COMMISSION/ note - The Battlefield Cross is positioned such that this plate cannot be read and this wording is speculative . Another note alternatively suggests a similar wording by the Royal British Legion .
