    TO THE MEMORY OF / SERG. DAVID JONES, V.C. / THE KING'S (LIVERPOOL REGIMENT) / AN OLD PUPIL OF THIS SCHOOL WHO WAS AWARDED THE / VICTORIA CROSS DURING THE GREAT WAR, FOR HIS INSPIRING / COURAGE AND CHEERING EXAMPLE, WHEN, HIS OFFICERS ALL / FALLEN, HE TOOK COMMAND, CAPTURED AN ADVANCED POSITION / ON THE SOMME FRONT, AND IN SPITE OF THE FIERCEST COUNTER / ATTACKS, HELD IT FOR NEARLY THREE DAYS, UNTIL RELIEVED. / HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION THREE WEEKS LATER ON OCT 7TH 1916. / "QUI ANTE DIEM PERIIT / SED MILES, SED PRO PATRIA"

    Reason for move

    Heyworth school was demolished in 1970. Plaque was originally in Heyworth St school and then Everton Park county primary school, Cresswell Street, Liverpool. It is now in the care of the King's Regiment and is on loan to the museum of Liverpool life together with other artefacts relating to Sgt Jones' life
