    Description
Robed female figure in bronze, (Angel of Mercy) representing peace, wearing a laurel wreath around her head & both hands held out as if in the act of blessing. Figure stands on an octagonal column & a three-stepped octagonal base. Closeby, is a screen wall bearing the inscription & thirteen name panels in bronze. The wall is reached by five steps & flanked by balustraded wing walls. There is a cross in relief between WW1 panels on the wall. At the centre of the panel of WW2 names is the Hinckley coat of arms. The Angel of Mercy figure which faces the wall, casts a shadow in the direction of the wall all year. By November, the shadow passes from left to right across the name panels. It is believed that this effect was an intentional part of the overall design.
