    Description
    Five stepped stone base to a square plinth surmounted by bronze allegorical figure of an athlete slaying an eagle, flanked by stone figures of royal marines: one in nautical uniform – representing service at sea – and the other in infantry uniform, representing service on land. There is a plaque on the six o'clock face of the plinth, with the Royal Marine crest (with their motto: per mare, per terram) and a dedication. A further dedication is inlaid on the 12 o'clock face. The memorial has a perimeter fence of iron railings, which have spar-head finials. There are corner and central stanchions with ball finials. Two benches with inscriptions are outside the south side iron railings.

    Bronze plaque 6 o'clock: "SO HE PASSED/ OVER AND ALL/ THE TRUMPETS/ SOUNDED FOR/ HIM ON THE/ OTHER SIDE." Inlaid on 12 o'clock: ERECTED BY/ THE PLYMOUTH DIVISION/ ROYAL MARINES/ (PAST, PRESENT AND RELATIVES)/ TO THE MEMORY OF/ THEIR COMRADES/ WHO FELL/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1919./ 1939-1945. Bench 1: ON THE OCCASION OF THE 350TH ANNIVERSARY/ OF THE RAISING OF THE ROYAL MARINES 28th OCTOBER 1664/ PRESENTED BY THE PLYMOUTH AND DISTRICT BRANCH/ ROYAL MARINES ASSOCIATION Bench 2: The Royal Marines Association , Plymouth & District/ This Bench Kindly Donated For The People of Plymouth to/ Celebrate "RM360" 28th Oct 2024 by Capt Clive Hunter RM Rtd/ Serving Corps & Country over 64 Yrs
