- Description
- Rectangular wall tablet, bix-axial-framed in pink alabaster on a black marble surround. Moulded frame consisting of four pieces of darker pink alabaster joined at the corners and decorated with raised scroll-work. Inscription brass insignia of the Royal Field Artillery in relief on four separate pieces attached to the stone in the top left hand corner. The incised letters are filled in with gold in Roman capitals of different sizes.

GERALD WYNTER BLATHWAYT/56TH BATTERY ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY/WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT THE 1ST BATTLE OF THE/AISNE, FRANCE, SEPT 14TH 1914/AND WAS INTERRED IN THE GARDEN OF THE CHATEAU VERNEUIL, FRANCE. /"DULCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI" ALSO OF/MARY CONSTANTIA BLATHWAYT/MOTHER OF THE ABOVE AND THE BELOVED WIFE OF/ARTHUR P. BLATHWAYT,/NORTHWOOD GRANGE, WHO WENT TO HER REST FEB. 12TH. 1919./"FOR SO HE GIVETH HIS BELOVED SLEEP."/"THE/SOULS OF THE RIGHTEOUS ARE IN THE HAND OF GOD."
