    Description
    Tall square pedestal with dates and carved relief of lion on one side and two bronze relief panels on alternate sides. These represent peace and justice. Pedestal surmounted by figure of armour clad St George on rearing charger killing dragon with lance. Carved inscription on the sides of the pedestal.

    Total amount raised for the memorial was £16,374 4s 4d. As the memorial did not cost as much as this, the balance was given to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for he provision of extra beds for the use of ex-servicemen requiring treatment.
    Maintenance History
    1991: Inscription re-cut following written complaint to Newcastle City Council that the lettering was illegible. Memorial was also restored in 2008 following vandalism.
