    Description
    Three stepped base surmounted by Cornish granite obelisk with bronze figure upon it. Two ships prows project from the pedestal. On the center plinth are two solider's, one of whom stands as he protects his wounded comrade. On the prow of the ships stand small bronze winged figure each representing the Royal Navy and the RAF. Mounted on the obelisk is a bronze winged figure of Victory standing on a globe at her feet is a bronze laurel wreath. The inscription is in gold around the base.

    (6 O'clock face) GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN / THIS THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE / FOR HIS FRIEND' S JOHN XV / ERECTED BY / PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION / TO THE HONOURED MEMORY / OF THE MEN OF THIS TOWN / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / IN THE / GREAT WAR / 1914 - 1918 / (3 o'clock face) 1939 - 1945 / TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE / WORLD WAR / ALSO THOSE WHO DIED IN THE / KOREAN WAR / 1950 - 1953
