    Description
A cast bronze memorial depicting a soldier of the Manchester Regiment standing on a rock, with bayonet fixed at the "ready" while a wounded comrade at his feet hands him a cartridge to continue the fight. This is mounted on a bronze plinth on the front face of which is a wreath of bay leaves with palms of victory branching out from its sides. The casting stands on a pedestaled granite plinth with bronze plaques on all sides, which record the names of those who gave their lives in the War. The dedication is incised, and runs round the granite plinth, starting above the front plaque, with its final phrase to be found beneath the front plaque. The plinth stands on a three-stepped granite base, which bears inscriptions relating to the creation of the memorial, and which is protected by a ring of large granite globes. A companion memorial to the bronze plaque installed under the tower of Manchester Cathedral (WMR 55641), but bearing additional names.
