    Description
    Two identical nowy headed bronze plaques each mounted onto an oak backboard. Each has an identical plaque placed below them with a list of those who died in Second World War. The coat of arms of the County Palatine of Lancaster is depicted in relief at the top of the upper plaques.

    Left hand upper plaque: IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THE MEMBERS OF/ THE STAFF OF THIS/ INSTITUTION WHO/ DIED ON BEHALF OF/ THEIR COUNTRY IN/ THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1919/ (Names) Left hand lower plaque: 1939 - 1945/ (Names) Right hand upper plaque: THIS INSTITUTION/ DURING THE GREAT/ WAR WAS CONVERTED/ INTO/ A WAR HOSPITAL/ FOR THE TREATMENT/ OF SICK AND/ WOUNDED SOLDIERS/ AND WAS DESIGNATED/ "THE LORD DERBY/ WAR HOSPITAL"/ DURING WHICH TIME/ 56,500 PATIENTS/ WERE TREATED/ 1914 - 1919 Right hand lower plaque: 1939 - 1947/ TOGETHER WITH 2,000/ MENTAL HOSPITAL BEDS/ AN E.M.S. HOSPITAL OF/ 800 BEDS WAS PROVIDED/ IN WHICH OVER 19,500/ PATIENTS WERE TREATED

    Maintenance History
    2009: Plaques were cleaned and remounted in November. They have been incorporated into an extended reception area which is not far from their original location. 2008: The hospital has been refurbished and the plaques removed. Discussions are taking place within the hospital regarding relocating the plaques.
