    Description
    Stained glass two-light window, representing war and peace; the left light depicting Archangel St Michael slaying a dragon; the right depicting Archangel St Gabriel beneath a dove carrying an olive-leaf. To the right of the window is the associated rectangular brass plaque, bearing the inscription.

    To the Glory of God and in loving memory of / Evelyn Ernest Arnold Collisson 2nd Lieutenant 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment / who was killed in action in France February 23rd 1916. / The only son of the Revd Thomas Collisson / [During whose Incumbency (1896-1916) the Churches of/ Upper and Lower Gravenhurst were restored] and Florence his wife. / This window was erected by his fellow Officers and many friends.

    Maintenance History
    The right light of the window was recorded as being missing in February 1993. (Two photographs of the intact window are viewable on the Bedfordshire Churches website - see references section). The redundant Church is Grade 1 listed by Historic England (1311911), and is maintained by The Churches Conservation Trust.

    His Grace the Duke of Bedford performed the unveiling, witnessed by a packed congregation of local dignitaries and the late Lt Collisson's relatives, friends and colleagues.

    Reverend Thomas Collisson (father of deceased) took the service and performed the dedication.

    • Luton News and Bedfordshire Chronicle 30/8/1917 (page 6) reported at length on the unveiling of the memorial and those who had attended.
    • The Bedfordshire Time and Independent 31/8/1917 (page 2) reported the unveiling, giving a lengthy description of the stained glass window, which had been installed in the south of the chancel.
