Description: Wall mounted rectangular copper plaque with rifles above and below. The plaque is decorated with a laurel wreath and branches extending left and right at the top centre (in red). Representations of soldiers of the Boer War with heads bowed are to the left and right, one representing the Buffs and the other the East Kent Yeomanry. Between them is the commemoration and then the names (in a single column). All lettering is inscribed in black.
Inscription: DUCIT AMOR PATRIAE/ SOUTH AFRICAN WAR 1899 - 1902/ THIS TABLET WAS ERECTED BY THE BURGESSES OF MARGATE/ TO THE MEMORY OF THEIR FELLOW TOWNSMEN KILLED IN THE/ SOUTH AFRICAN WAR 1899 - 1902 AND TO COMMEMORATE THE/ LOYALTY AND PATRIOTISM DISPLAYED IN THEIR DEVOTION TO/ THEIR SOVEREIGN AND COUNTRY/ EAST KENT REGIMENT "THE BUFFS"/ (NAMES)/ IMPERIAL YEOMANRY (EAST KENT)/ (NAMES)
