    Description
    A wall-mounted, elaborate wooden board with based, triangular pediment and four pilastres. Buxton crest above the inscription in the centre, flanked by two military badges and small relief figures of soldiers on each side of the inscription. Outside of these are the names. All lettering and the date below are in relief.

    ERECTED BY THE BUXTON URBAN DISTRICT COUN/ CIL TO COMMEMORATE THE BRAVERY OF THE/ GALLANT MEN OF THE DISTRICT WHO VOLUNTEERED / FOR ACTIVE SERVICE IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN WAR/ 1900 - 2. SERGEANTS PERKINS AND BRINDLEY AND/ CORPORALS CHAPPEL AND PERKIN WERE THE/ FIRST VOLUNTEERS TO LEAVE THE SHORES OF ENGLAND/ ON ACTIVE SERVICE: SERGEANT PERKINS WAS KILLED/ IN ACTION AT RHENOSTER RIVER JUNE 7TH 1900/ (NAMES OF COUNCIL OFFICERS)/ 1902/ (Names)
